Whoa, where has this week gone?
I had the odd sensation of looking down at my watch yesterday at 3 pm and thinking, “why is this thing backwards?” Because it felt like 9 am. Aaaand it was 6 hours later than that. I guess I can’t complain about the workday and workweek flying by, but man… I sure have a lot to do before Monday!
But let’s take a step back, and take a deep breath, because it’s Friday.
I can’t even type “it’s Friday” without singing that terrible Rebecca Black song in my head. It’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday…
Anyway, it is Friday, and I think Friday is a great time to talk about weekend breakfast-y things like pancakes.
But not just any pancakes… chocolate pancakes. Chocolate rye pancakes, for that matter!

I am still huddled under my blanket in front of the space heater, but this time I made you pancakes.
I’m in a pancake phase right now… still… from the holidays. Though I would rarely choose pancakes off a menu, something about having house guests always makes me want to whip up a double batch. It just seems like the hospitable thing to do! Ain’t nobody doesn’t like pancakes.
Especially these pancakes.

I never believed bloggers who claimed to bake with vegan ingredients just because they ran out of butter and eggs. Pshhh. You just know people want to see vegan recipes!
But, ahem, now I believe it, because I fully intended for these pancakes to have eggs. Then I got home from the grocery store and realized I had no eggs. Welp. Vegan pancake time.

When was the last time you went berry picking?
Mine was years ago, when my family came to visit me in Germany at the end of my semester abroad. It was late summer, and we were set on berry picking. We drove about an hour just to pick some raspberries. I probably have vivid memories of it mostly because it is well-documented – my dad likes to take lots of pictures when the family is all together.
Aaand this is reminding me of many funny things that happened during that visit – my sister falling off a folding bike (she didn’t think it was too funny at the time), my dad whipping the cream to go on top of those berries by hand because he couldn’t find an electric mixer, our crazy German relatives… good thing I am with my sisters this week, because we have some reminiscing to do.
