Our Wedding Part 2 – The Ceremony

November 28, 2014 by Erica

Hi! How was your Thanksgiving? While you transition our of your food coma (or maybe you’re already getting started on leftovers?), let me show you some more wedding photos. If you missed last week’s wedding post, head there first!

When I left off, we weren’t married yet. And after the first look, I was ready to get this party started!

The ceremony was held on the lawn at Moraine Farm in front of some big, gnarly pine trees. Thank goodness the weather was nice, because there was no plan B!

My dad walked his oldest daughter down the aisle to an acoustic guitar version of Etta James’ “At Last.” I wanted to walk faster, but he told me we needed to walk slowly so everyone had a chance to look at me – especially this guy :)

We chose to get married by a justice of the peace, since we’re not religious. JP ceremonies are nice because you get to write them yourself and make them as personal as you want. But one of the only hiccups in the wedding occurred when the JP began to speak… and read the rough draft of the ceremony I’d sent her, rather than the final copy! I wished I could stop everything and get it straightened out, but it’s one of those things that literally no one else besides me noticed.

We repeated vows that we wrote together, promising to be each other’s best friend and partner in crime, and to love each other for better and for worse, in laughter and in tears. Fittingly, I was both laughing and crying as I said my vows.

One funny moment was during the ring exchange. Despite our JP, Beverly, warning us that we shouldn’t make a big deal out of it if one of us couldn’t get our ring on… well, we did. Nate had some serious trouble getting his ring past the knuckle, and Beverly asked whether she needed to get out the grease bucket :) Nothing like some comic relief!

The whole ceremony lasted maybe 10 minutes. At the end, Beverly announced, “Erica, you may kiss the groom!” So I did.

And just like that we were hitched!

We walked back down the aisle to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”

All smiles!

We were followed by our bridesmaids and groomsmen, all in groups of 3. Because we ended up with uneven numbers in the bridal party, Nate’s best man Tyler walked with my two sisters, and the rest of the bridesmaids had a groomsman on each arm. As long as everyone got back down the aisle, I was happy!

Nate looked so silly with a ring on. I’ve always worn jewelry, but he never does. Two months later, I’m used to it, but I had to laugh at him at first. He looks like a little boy wearing a wedding ring!

Nate’s mom and I had an emotional moment after the ceremony – I think she was telling me that she and I are both Mrs. Krahs now. I really like this sweet picture.

After the ceremony, it was time for some more formal pictures while everyone else headed straight to cocktail hour. They brought us a tray of our signature cocktails – Tom Collins for him, Paloma for her. I was too happy to drink or eat, though – I took maybe two sips.

When I bought my dress and chose my hairstyle, I wasn’t going for any look in particular – just what I thought would look best on me. But the flowers really tied it all together into a soft, vintage-y look that I loved. It was perfect for the venue, and my mom’s necklace was the finishing touch.

I was also really happy with my hair and makeup, both of which I had professionally done. I mentioned that the hair salon was a bit stressful, but in the end it was worth it. Professional makeup is really an incredible thing! I wish I had those skills. I felt like myself but prettier, which is exactly what I wanted on my wedding day :)

The pictures before the ceremony are my favorites – so glad we did those. But these pictures from afterwards do a good job of capturing how happy we were to be married, I think!

Still, it was nice that we got so many pictures out of the way early in the day. It allowed the rest of the bridal party to attend all of cocktail hour, too. After just a few minutes, we joined them.

Our Wedding 9.20.14

Our Wedding 9.20.14 | coffeeandquinoa.com

Exactly two months after our big day, I am so excited to finally be sharing some wedding photos with you!

When we got engaged last November, we decided almost immediately that we wanted to get married back in Boston near my family and so many of our mutual friends. Come to think of it, I was probably pushing that conversation before Nate even proposed! Anyway, choosing a venue from afar proved to be difficult. Luckily we had my mom, who was willing to drive all over Massachusetts, whether I was in town or not, scouting out venues. We finally settled on The Estate at Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA, less than 30 minutes from my parents’ house.

While I am absolutely one of those girls that’s dreamed about her wedding day since she was little, when it came to planning the details, I wasn’t super into it. I’m not a DIYer, and (especially planning the wedding remotely) I wanted a venue that would take care of most of the hard stuff. Moraine Farm was perfect because they’re owned by a catering group and have a coordinator to ensure everything runs seamlessly. It was the best.

Aaaand We’re Back!

October 6, 2014 by Erica

Aaaand we’re back!

Since the last time I saw you:

I got married.

This blog got hacked.

I went on a mini-honeymoon to Martha’s Vineyard.

I ate my weight in seafood and risotto on Martha’s Vineyard.

…among other things. Let’s celebrate some of those things… and apologize for others.

First of all, I am SO sorry that this blog was blocked due to malware! Once I was done with some work travel, I remedied the issue as quickly as I could, and I’ll be more prepared going forward. Website issues are embarrassing. They’re like hanging a sign around your neck that says “I don’t know how to do this sh*t.” For real. And when it comes to backend site stuff… well, I’m no expert. I’m so sorry things got broken and the site was unavailable!

If you’re curious, I fixed things by signing up for Sucuri’s website antivirus and firewall protection packages. The antivirus package is a reactive solution, scanning your site for problems and providing technical support to clean them up when they’re found. The firewall is a proactive solution, implemented to make sure malicious code doesn’t get installed in the first place.

Site security is a bigger deal than I thought, and I regret not getting something set up sooner. Sucuri is relatively affordable and their response times are super speedy, so I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a similar solution!

OK, that was no fun. Can we talk about the wedding?!

It will still be at least a month before we get the pictures back from the photographer (with the exception of one at the top of this post!), so I’ll wait to share a detailed wedding recap until then. But I just have to tell you a little about our day, because it was by far the best and happiest day of my life so far.

Our wedding was absolutely perfect. The weather was beautiful, all of our vendors were AWESOME, and everything went more smoothly than I would have thought possible. Can you believe the only snafu of the whole day was that Nate realized he didn’t have cuff links, and his groomsmen had to buy him some before the ceremony? Not exactly an emergency. I was expecting a wonderful and happy day, but I think I was also expecting a bit of stress. It was emotional, to be sure – I shed my fair share of tears before, during and after the ceremony! – but the entire day was pure happiness.

I’m going to have to repeat all of this again once I have pictures for you, so I don’t want to say too much. In short, everything turned out even better than I could have imagined. I was in love with my dress, hair, and make-up… and of course having hundreds of people telling me I looked beautiful all day didn’t hurt :) Nate looked so handsome in his tux, and so happy to be marrying me. The ceremony was short and personal. The venue was gorgeous and the food was DELICIOUS – obviously important to me! Our DJ was amazing and had everyone on the dance floor all night long. It was just hands-down the best party I’ve ever been to! So many of my married friends have expressed relief when their wedding was over, but I felt just the opposite. I cried when the DJ played the last song – I wanted to do it all over again! I felt so incredibly lucky to be marrying the man I love, surrounded by friends and family who were obviously so, so happy for us. There is no feeling like it. And it turns out being the center of attention wasn’t so bad after all :)

Sooooo now I’m Mrs. Krah! And Mrs. Krah has some catching up to do on recipe posting. I did get back in the kitchen this weekend and you can look forward to some tasty treats later this week. Also, I promise to spare NO wedding detail once I have the pictures! I hope they capture how magical the day was.

It’s been a few weeks, and I’ve missed this blog! Let’s get back into the swing of things, shall we?

The Last Wedding Planning Update!

September 12, 2014 by Erica

The Last Wedding Planning Update! | coffeeandquinoa.com

I am on board and buckled up for the emotional roller coaster ride that is monitoring the 10 day forecast before my wedding.

Just kidding – it hasn’t been too emotional (so far). Mostly because right now the weather forecast looks like this:

The Last Wedding Planning Update! | coffeeandquinoa.com

72 and sunny on Saturday, September 20th. You really couldn’t ask for a more perfect fall day in New England.

While I’ve by no means been great about giving regular wedding planning updates on here, I thought I’d give it one last shot before the big day. And this is pretty much my last chance! I cannot believe it’s just 8 days away. On the one hand, we’ve been planning our wedding for almost a year, and at times it felt like it would never come. But on the other, it has totally snuck up on me. Time is such a funny thing.

So we are (I think) completely prepared for the wedding. Marriage license? Check. Rings? Check. Final payment to the caterer? Groan, check.

Wedding Cake, etc.

July 16, 2014 by Erica

Wedding Cake, etc | coffeeandquinoa.com

Bridezilla on the loose!

So far, the most fun part of wedding planning has been anything that makes it seem real. Seeing Nate in his suit… getting my hair and makeup done… seeing our venue in all its summer beauty. Those last two happened this past weekend when I went back to Massachusetts for what I’m deeming Wedding Whirlwind Weekend with my mom. Nate had to stay back in Salt Lake and my dad was out of town, so the two of us had a few marathon days of wedding planning mayhem. Hair and makeup trials, cake tasting, stationery selection – we tackled pretty much the whole of the remaining wedding to-do list. It was almost more than we could handle – my head hit the pillow pretty hard on Saturday night! – but we got so much done. And after meeting with the florist at our venue on Saturday, I had (for the first time) a completely stress-free wedding dream: that it was our wedding day, the weather was perfect, and I was so unbelievably happy I could barely contain myself.

I guess that’s the feeling that comes with getting stuff done. Quite the contrast with the first wedding dream I had, in which I walked up the aisle and Nate wasn’t there. Hah!

Guess which one I hope becomes reality in September?
